This autumn, experience one of the world’s most iconic films in one of Harwich’s most iconic locations!
On Sunday 27 September, for one afternoon only, the Harwich Redoubt will be transformed into an open-air cinema, screening Steven Spielberg’s 1993 blockbuster, Jurassic Park.
Created by the Harwich Society in partnership with the Electric Palace Cinema Archive Project, Fort Flicks brings together film, fun and local heritage in one of the town’s most unique historic settings.
When Jurassic Park was first released back in 1993, it was originally shown at the Electric Palace Cinema. More than 30 years later, Fort Flicks is bringing the film back to the town, giving audiences the chance to experience this much-loved classic in a completely new setting.
Before the screening, visitors can explore the Redoubt and enjoy some family-friendly activities inspired by both the film and the fort itself.
Tickets cost £5 per adult, with children under 15 years old admitted free of charge.
In a nod to Jurassic Park’s original Electric Palace screening, a limited number of adult tickets are available for £1.50 on a first come, first served basis, matching the original 1993 ticket price, using the code FORT150.

- Entry to the Harwich Redoubt from 1pm
- Access to family-friendly activities before the film
- An outdoor screening of Jurassic Park (rated PG) at 2.30pm

Fort Flicks has been developed as part of the Harwich Society’s Pilot Repair Project, made possible with funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Historic England. By bringing new audiences to the Redoubt through events like this, the Harwich Society is helping more people discover, enjoy and connect with this remarkable historic site.

Tickets and booking: All adult and children tickets must be booked in advance via the Electric Palace website. Adult tickets cost £5, while children under 15 years old attend free. A limited number of tickets are also available for £1.50 using the promotional code FORT150.
Film rating: Although the film is rated PG in the UK, parents and carers are advised that Jurassic Park contains moderate threat, violence, and frightening dinosaur attack sequences that some younger viewers may find scary!
Weather: Fort Flicks is an outdoor event and will go ahead in most weather conditions. Visitors are advised to come prepared for potentially wet and windy weather and to dress appropriately for the conditions. Any changes to the event due to severe weather will be communicated in advance.
Travel and parking: Limited parking is available near the Redoubt, with on-street options and public car parks within walking distance. Visitors are encouraged to consider travelling by public transport wherever possible.
Accessibility: The Fort Flicks screening area is wheelchair accessible. The Redoubt has a stair lift and accessible toilet facilities, although please be aware that the approach to the site is via a very steep lane.
What to bring: Visitors are welcome to bring their own camping chair or picnic blanket, as well as food and non-alcoholic drinks to enjoy during the event. Alcohol is not permitted at Fort Flicks.
Timings: The Redoubt will be open to ticket holders from 1pm, with family-friendly activities taking place before the film is screened from 2.30pm. The event will finish by 5.30pm.
