Richard Oxborrow, Harry Black and Lewis Peake are delighted to announce that the 9th and final book in their ‘Little Pub Book’ series on the historic pubs of Harwich is about to be launched.
The final book in the series tells the story of The Swan and it will be launched at the King’s Head Street Christmas market on Sunday 24th November, copies also being available in the Ha’penny Pier Visitor Centre and the Harwich Town Museum.
Richard Oxborrow says , “The Swan has proved to be another fascinating pub to research and, having been built as a magnificent mansion for one of Harwich’s original council members elected in 1604, it has been a pub under four different pub signs.”
The Little Pub Books began as a ‘lock down’ project and each has thrown up surprises during the research. As local historians, Richard Oxborrow, Harry Black and Lewis Peake are used to Harwich suddenly offering up little gems of information when least expected and the research for these books has been no exception.
“Historic Harwich is the gift that keeps on giving and I am sure we will soon have another project under way,” continued Richard Oxborrow. “We are blessed in having so many historic buildings to enjoy and our pub heritage is an important part of that. Hopefully, this series of books has helped bring that to life.”
