Pirate Father Christmas to visit Harwich Ha’penny Pier Visitor Centre

The timbers of the Harwich Ha’penny Pier will be shivering when the pirate Father Christmas visits the Harwich Society’s Ha’penny Pier Visitor Centre on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th December.

It is a little known fact that pirates have their own Father Christmas and that he is the best friend of Santa Claus. It was a lovely surprise for the Harwich Society volunteers who staff the visitor centre to learn that he is to visit the Harwich centre for pirate activity and they hope that lots of children will bring their families along to meet him.

Lesley Elliot, the volunteer who took the call from Pirate Father Christmas, says, “It was amazing to have him talking to me on the phone and saying he wished to visit. All of the Ha’penny Pier volunteers are very excited that he is finding the time to spend two afternoons between 1PM and 4PM in Harwich at such a busy time of the year.”

With various pirate related activities organised for children throughout the year the Harwich Society’s Ha’penny Pier Visitor Centre is certainly the centre of pirate related activities within Harwich and everyone is delighted that the Pirate Father Christmas is visiting. In spite of being outside of the summer season this is a busy time for the Ha’penny Pier Visitor Centre volunteers as the centre will also be open throughout the Shanty Festival’s treasure hunt starting at 10AM on Saturday 30th December and again to serve hot drinks on New Year’s Eve, priced at £1 per cup with all proceeds going towards children’s activities at the centre.

Harwich Society chairman, Colin Farnell, says, “Our Ha’penny Pier Visitor Centre volunteers do an amazing amount throughout the year and I am so pleased for them that their efforts are being recognised by a visit from the Pirate Father Christmas. I am sure that they are as excited as the children and it is clear that the entire Christmas/New Year period is once again going to be special in Historic Harwich.”
