A very popular part of Harwich Society membership is the ‘winter programme’ of monthly meetings which include a talk by a guest speaker. The talks are on a wide range of interesting subjects and regularly attract an audience of over 100 members.
This Friday (September 24th) will see the resumption of monthly talks for the winter of 2021-22 and the first talk is on ‘Salt routes’ by author and journalist, Anthony Poulton-Smith.
The talk will trace the history of how salt became a vital commodity, was the basis of trade and how the salt routes developed and still exist today.
Harwich Society chairman, Colin Farnell, says, “Along with unlimited free entry to all of our visitor attractions, Harwich Society membership includes free entry to the winter programme of monthly talks and these are extremely popular. COVID-19 took away our entire winter programme last year and it is lovely to be starting up again.”
The talks take place in the Navigator in Barrack Lane, 7PM for a 7.30PM start with light refreshments available.
