As the Harwich Society’s Winter programme of monthly talks nears its end, the March talk on Friday 28th March will focus on a subject very close to the Harwich Society’s heart.
Harwich’s Redoubt Fort was built as part of England’s defences against the possibility of invasion by Napoleon’s France so a talk on Essex and the Napoleonic Wars will be of particular interest to Society members.
The speaker is Wendy Shepherd and her talk will range from comparisons between the two leaders, Wellington and Napoleon, through to the actions of two Essex men from Fordham who fought at Waterloo. There will be a focus on how Essex prepared its defences against possible invasion and how the wars culminated at Waterloo.
Harwich Society chairman, Andy Schooler, says, “The Redoubt Fort means that Harwich has a particular interest in Napoleonic history so Wendy Shepherd’s talk will certainly attract a lot of interest. I’m sure it will be a fascinating and enjoyable evening.”
The talk will take place in the Navigator in Barrack Lane Harwich on Friday 28th March beginning at 7.30PM. Teas and coffees will be available.
“The Harwich Society’s winter programme of monthly talks is always very popular among members and this winter has been no exception,” continued Andy Schooler. “With unlimited free admission to our visitor attractions throughout the summer and a free monthly talk during the winter, Harwich Society membership is extremely good value for money.”
