CONCERN OVER FUTURE OF LIFEBOAT MUSEUM

The future of the Harwich Society’s Lifeboat museum is in doubt as, at present, there are too few volunteers to staff it for the coming season.

Volunteers at the Harwich Society’s visitor attractions spend the winter months carrying out maintenance and working on new displays and it has become apparent that the number of volunteers at the Lifeboat museum will not be sufficient to staff it during the coming season.

Chairman of the Harwich Society, Andy Schooler, says, “Our fantastic volunteers are the life blood of the Harwich Society and they do a great job in so many different ways throughout the summer season.  However, we have become aware that the number of volunteers at our Lifeboat museum is not presently sufficient to keep it open.  We really do need new volunteers to come forward.”

The Harwich Society knows how important the RNLI is to Harwich and the museum reflects the pride that Harwich has for its lifeboat history and heritage.  The trustees are desperate to ensure that all of the Harwich Society visitor attractions operate throughout the coming season but this will not happen unless new volunteers can be found for the Lifeboat museum.

“Visitors are very impressed by how many attractions are available to see in such a small area and the Harwich Society very much wishes to keep them all open,” continued Andy Schooler.  “If we have people out there who can spare a few hours a week to volunteer at the Lifeboat museum or any of our other visitor attractions then please get in touch.”
