The Harwich Society’s ‘Bobbit’s Stroll’ charity event has become a firm favourite on people’s summer calendar and the 2024 Bobbit’s Stroll was another great success.
Bobbit’s Hole is the Harwich Society’s nature reserve in the centre of Dovercourt and it is open every Sunday morning from 10AM to 12 noon for visitors to enjoy free of charge. On one designated Sunday (this year Sunday 4th August) the Harwich Society’s ‘Bobbit’s Stroll’ takes place and visitors are asked to make a donation to a designated charity for the pleasure of strolling around the lake and enjoying the wildlife within the reserve.
This year’s chosen charity was the ‘We Care Wildlife Rescue Centre’ which is a rescue and rehabilitation service for animals and birds based at Brantham.
The event was attended by hundreds of visitors and £508 was raised for this very good cause.
Colin Farnell, chairman of the Harwich Society, says, “This is a day that all of the Harwich Society volunteers who manage Bobbit’s Hole look forward to and it was another great success. We first ran the Bobbit’s Stroll in 2009 and it is lovely to see that it still has so much support within the community.”
The children’s nature quiz and the activities overseen by Home-Start Harwich kept the younger visitors entertained while slightly older visitors enjoyed the cakes, teas and coffees while they had a stroll or simply sat by the lake enjoying the view.
The Mayor of Harwich, Cllr. Pam Morrison and her consort, Cllr. Dave Chable, attended the event and were extremely impressed.
Mayor of Harwich, Cllr. Pam Morrison, says, “It was a truly lovely morning and a credit to the Harwich Society volunteers who worked very hard to stage the event. What they have created at Bobbit’s Hole is very special and is certainly worth a visit. Dave and I weren’t just there for the Lemon Drizzle cake although it certainly added to the day!
