The Maritime Museum said farewell to Steve Couzens at the end of last Season due to work
commitments, leaving us to search for a new Curator. We are very pleased to say that David Horn
has taken on the task and has managed to recruit a team to open The Low Lighthouse, Friday to
Sunday, from 1st May from 11.00am to 3.00pm. The team consists of Alex Thompson, Andy
Fidgett, Rose Rosier and Claire Cassells.
Alex has made 5 new shutters for the outside and much of the rotten wood has been replaced with
wooden cladding and much of the paintwork has been renewed. The Museum has been cleaned
and polished by the whole team and was ready to open for 2 days over Easter. Over these two
days, in spite of the cold weather over 100 visitors were welcomed by the new crew.
We have been fortunate to have two new models, an Edme barge and a Bomb Vessel loaned to us
by Tony Mobbs.
All our Museums are now open:
The Redoubt - Every day - 10.00am to 4.00pm
Lifeboat Museum - Wed to Sun - 11.00am to 3.00pm
Maritime Museum - Fri, Sat & Sun - 11.00am to 3.00pm
Ha'penny Pier Visitor Centre - Every day - 10.00am to 5.00pm
Radar Tower - First Sunday of the month - 2pm to 4pm
MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY
YOUR MARITIME MUSEUM NEEDS YOUR HELP
We have a small dedicated band of helpers, but we need more volunteers to open it on a regular
basis. The days we open are very successful, but we cannot open every Friday, Saturday and
Sunday at the moment. If you could help on any of these three days, or any other day, between 11
a.m. and 3 p.m.`ish, please contact me on 01255 506306.
MAYDAY IS THE SPOKEN NAUTICAL AND AVIATION DISTRESS SIGNAL, AND
DERIVES FROM THE FRENCH m`aidez, WHICH MEANS HELP ME. I THOUGHT OF
APPEALING IN MORSE CODE, BUT THAT WOULD SEND YOU DOTTY!! MUST DASH.
m`aidez David Horn, Curator Maritime Museum.
